Letโs Talk Collections ๐๏ธ And a Little Story Behind The Stuff Featuring Nancy Drew ๐
Folks are often surprised to hear I am not a big collector. I much prefer to buy โcool old stuffโ when I see it. I donโt always know where itโs going to live or have the perfect spot identified in my home.
I have made an exception to the โlet the item speak to me and find a spot laterโ rule for my first (and likely last) collection: Nancy Drew ๐
My Mom saved a stash of Nancy Drew books from her childhood to share with us (my sisters + I) as we started to read. I have such distinct memories of selecting the perfect book from the bin to read - likely where my love of mysteries was born ๐งก
As I was preparing to open The Mustache Cat, I found a few Nancy Drew books to buy for the shop - I love the colors, titles and of course nostalgia. I called my Mom to reminisce about the book bin and we joked about collecting the full set.
On her next visit to Minnesota, she surprised me with the bin to officially start the collection. We both remembered the bin as overflowing (in reality we had 8 ๐คฃ)
We started a shared note with the full list of books + titles (56) and set the rules:
(1) We needed to find the books โin the wildโ (no help from the World Wide Web)
(2) Books must have the soft yellow cover (books published from 1962-1981)
The latest version of the collection is proudly on display in my house, with just 3 books remaining to complete!
Nancy Drew + Hardy Boys are two book series we always have on hand at the shop - whether youโre looking to start/add to your own collection or just use as cool decor.
Do you have a collection? Love hearing from collectors - so much passion and knowledge to share. Happy to geek out about it anytime!
