Why vintage?
One of my favorite things to do growing up was to accompany my Dad on his regular trips to a small local antique shop. The owner Jude, (an absolutely fabulous woman with a contagious spirit) would always greet us by name and show us the new items she had that she thought might interest us. I loved how well she knew us as customers (and humans), what we loved, our preferred style, and how she always had something fresh even though we had just been there the week prior.
She would show us the pieces she thought were “us” and tell us the story of where she found them, what they were once used for, or how she could picture us using them in our home. I loved that each piece was unique - I definitely did not see vintage Coca Cola machines in homes regularly.
Giving old stuff a new life and including it in a modern setting is fun. It adds interest to your space, and makes for a great conversation. I love when people ask “where did you find that piece,” or “what was that used for originally,” or “does that sign really say LOBSTERS?”
I am excited to recreate the ‘Jude experience’ with The Mustache Cat community, and share the stories behind the stuff as each piece finds it’s next life.
