From Dreams to Grand Old Days: My Journey to Small Business in Saint Paul
Growing up, I always knew I wanted to be a business owner. I dreamed of what it could look like to do my own thing - would I invent something amazing, come up with a bright idea for a service, or have a physical shop in the community (fun fact - for a while I thought I’d like to be a florist when I “grew up”) 🌼
While past me wouldn’t be surprised that the future held small business ownership, they would be surprised to know I moved from the East Coast to Minnesota. When first considering the big move, we drove around the cities to get a feel for neighborhoods - I fell in love with Grand Avenue. The walkability, charm, history, and of course amazing small businesses drew me to Saint Paul
We bought our first house just a few blocks off Grand and closed days before @grandoldday That first Grand Old Day was magical (yes, I know this sounds cheesy) - hosting new friends + family in our space and enjoying the day of music, food + fun confirmed this was a place I could see myself building community.
That community has grown in ways I could never have imagined, and this small business dream has brought together so many amazing folks. So, we’re making our love of this community and Grand Old Day a little more official this year by participating in the parade! We’ve got a funky float (yes, the iconic orange couch will be traveling with us), and parade throws in the form of wearable mustaches (with coupons) 😻
Thanks to all who came to cheer us on, grab a mustache, take a ridiculous photo of your crew wearing them, and celebrate with us in spirit. Let’s keep growing this community together - thankful for you all 🧡
